A woman and a child arrive at a hidden beach in Abruzzo. Nico is a nice 12-year-old boy, Carla is tall, with thick copper-red hair, she has to sell the house where she was born that her ex-husband gave them with the separation documents. A long time has passed since Sergio left to study and almost never returned. In Bolzano, where he taught literature, he had met Carla, a colleague and music teacher twenty years younger than him. Prone to depression, to drinking, increasingly distant after the birth of Nico, his passion for another woman who was also younger had made him kick everything out. However, he never had the courage to completely get rid of his past. Now this task will fall to Carla who will try to sell the house. Nico will stay in his father's bedroom as a boy with objects from an unknown past like this place, without any relatives, geographically far from where they came from and with a mentality all to be discovered. The child meets Pietro, in his forties, rude, a man of few words, with a moustache and goatee that immediately make him likeable. Nico is amazed and later Carla too. Sergio and Pietro look strikingly alike. You could say that Pietro is his much younger alter ego, as if he had never left and continued his studies. Carla is falling in love, aware that she is almost living in a dream. Pietro is gradually pushing Nico towards adolescence, to discover his truest passions. Unexpectedly Pietro falls in love with a young woman who has just arrived. After a trip to the Tremiti Islands lived with a strong sense of loneliness, they set off again for Bolzano. Now Nico, in his twenties, is back here in front of the sea, on the balcony of the bar on the shore, mulling over reality and fantasy. He and his mother accompanied Sergio who, having reconciled with his past, has decided to spend his last years in his childhood places, since the house has never been sold. Nico is driving the car and they set off again. In the meantime, Pietro absentmindedly sets off with his off-road vehicle towards the bar. Suddenly he comes across an elderly man on a bicycle going the wrong way, he almost runs him over. He brakes, immediately turns to the rear window and is amazed by the resemblance between them. Sergio, after recovering, looks to understand what happened but only sees the empty road.
