Interview with Great Grandmaster - Atillo Balintawak Eskrima
This FMA Life series shares the Lineage Holders of different systems - their history, their lives, their story...FMA Life Behind the Scenes conversation with Great Grandmaster Crispulo "Ising" Atillo (Founder of Atillo Balintawak Eskrima Original Saavedra Style) during an FMA training session. He answers questions and responds to comments from the martial arts community. Featuring: FORMER students Bobby Torres and Joseph Caro. They are no longer associated with GGM Atillo's group as of 08-03-21. Crispulo "Ising" Atillo is the founder of Atillo Balintawak Eskrima-Original Saavedra Style. At 83 years of age, Atillo is the last living member of the famed Balintawak Self Defense Club founded in 1952. He has studied with the original Filipino Grandmasters, fought in four full-contact challenge "death matches" with no protective gear, and banged sticks with some of the biggest names in the Filipino martial arts. His style is sought out to learn from students that travel from around the world to train with him personally or his official masters / qualified instructors. Atillo teaches stick-to-stick spar drills, followed by stick-and-hand spar drills that appear as flow drills or combinations of patterns that eventually become automatic breaking away into virtually infinite possibilities and nuances that can be applied to other weapons such as knives and swords as well as open hands - all of which are designed to foster his specialty, sparring, which is essential to developing fighters. This is why his style wins death matches. In a world that's seen the rise and popularity of MMA, Crispulo Atillo is one of the last remaining Grandmasters of Balintawak trying to pass on a practical, death match tested, powerful martial art as he enters his twilight years.

Master Narrison "Nar" Babao of the Babao Arnis System
This FMA Life series shares the Lineage Holders of different systems - their history, their lives, their story...FMA Life This is an inside look to learning/training in the Babao Arnis system at the (by invite only) garage headquarters. Featuring Master Narrison "Nar" Babao, Maestro Don Dizon, Domingo Agnas, and other Babao Arnis students. The Babao Arnis legacy is currently in its fourth generation. Master Narrison "Nar" Babao is the son of the late GM Narciso "Narrie" Babao and is the head of the Babao Arnis system. Nar started formal training at 16. He is a senior master in Babao Arnis system and also a Master under the Cacoy Doce Pares system. He's left-handed and ambidextrous, a strength he compensates with despite having a physical handicap (1 leg shorter due to polio). Even so, he's adapted and is a role model and inspiration to all. The Babao Arnis system is composed of three main combative systems; Villabrille-Largusa Kali, Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrido, and the original Baston Batangas taught by the late patriarch Buenaventura "Turing" Babao - as learned from Master Ka Juan, a Katipunan rebel under General Miguel Malvar, during the Filipino American war. The academy of Babao Arnis is very exclusive and selective in accepting students. An individual has to be recommended by a trusted source in the Filipino Martial Arts community, undergo a careful screening process, interviewed, security checked, and accepted. Many of the students come from several law enforcement agencies and the academy's curriculum is followed adhering to the lineage.
