Set in a suburb of Warsaw in September of 1944, as the Germans were withdrawing after leaving the city of ruins after the Warsaw uprising and the Russians were preparing to cross the river.

The plot spans from shortly before the outbreak of World War II to its end. In the city of Lwow (PL) in 1939 Adam and Irena fall in Love, but are separated by the outbreak of the war. Both are deported by the Soviets to Siberia, where they briefly meet again when signing up to the newly created Polish army. Again separated from Irena, Adam marches with the army from Siberia trough the Middle East and fights on the Italian front line. During the battle of Monte Cassino he gets wounded when participating at the first assault, temporarily losing his eyesight. In the military hospital a nurse finds his diary and, initially in the intent to relieve his suffering, later from romantic affection towards him, pretends to be his fiance Irena. This, however, is ended when the real Irena arrives. Adam recovers from his wounds and, after the Polish victory at Monte Cassino, follows the army together with Irena to northern Italy, where they settle after the end of the war. In this film the plot serves as a framework for original footage taken by the army during the war. The name of the film, Wielka Droga, means 'The Great Way', referring to the march from Poland through Siberia and the Middle East to Northern Italy. This is the only film showing the Polish participation in the Italian Campaign.

Hadi travels to Croatia to complete his researches on Film making. His friend Aziz who has heard about his trip gives him a photo and a VHS cassette asking him to look after a girl Fatemeh there. Hadi with the help of a woman Hanifeh who can talk Persian searches for the girl. Croatian police arrest Hadi and because of his visa problems expelled him from the country. He then with Hanifeh go to Bosnia to complete his search after Fatemeh but involved in the Bosnia's war and get injured.

When a reporter is killed under mysterious circumstances, the political cartoonist on his paper begins to investigate on his own. He finds that a vengeful industrialist may be trying to manipulate an international peace conference to stage a bombing attack on London.

1943, Italy's Salentino peninsula. Tony, an American fighter pilot, raised speaking Italian in New York, parachutes to safety and is hidden at the olive farm of Carmine, a man with three daughters. One is being courted by Pasquale, the son of the area's largest landowner. It is she, Cosima, whom Tony falls for. He gets to know her through the rhythms of the farm and a traditional way of life, expressed in spontaneous song and in pizzicatas (a courtship dance; a dance that enacts a knife fight between men; and, the frenzied tarantata - a woman's dance exorcising passion). As Carmine protects Tony and as Cosima begins to love him, Pasquale does not go gently.
