2003 Catherine and George Gauthier live in Washington. Catherine works in her small photography studio, George teaches at Georgetown University. They look like an ordinary family, but in fact they are agents of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Vera Sviblova and Anton Vyazin. In the US, they are collecting data on the secret "Zone of Influence" plan to destroy the Russian economy.

Lina lives a very ordinary life: husband Boris and daughter Nastya, work as a French teacher at a prestigious gymnasium. True, Boris is obsessed with the idea of organizing his own business. Lina's salary and part-time work are barely enough to pay off the loans taken by Boris. Soon the situation gets out of control: Boris leaves the family; Lina is fired from the gymnasium due to a conflict with the influential father of one of the students; Collectors appear on the threshold of her apartment - they cannot find Boris, so they shake off debts from his wife.
