Summary Guozhu AI is from a small town. He had wanted to leave for a better life in the city after graduating from the police academy. Once there, however, he becomes an unenthusiastic undercover journalist. His classmate, Qiyuan ZHOU, a hardworking ideal student who gave up other opportunities to become an unexceptional bureaucrat, stayed in town for the sake of his parents. As Guozhu AI's ambitions fade away day by day, the only thing that stokes his passion is murder cases. He notices a connection between several of these cases and a traveling circus incident from his childhood. Guozhu AI turns to Qiyuan ZHOU for help. Although Qiyuan ZHOU is struggling with the effort of trying to get married and convalescing from an illness, he agrees to help, seeing GuoZu AI's request as a possible exit from his own tedious life. When the truth is finally revealed, Guozhu AI discovers that both his and Qiyuan ZHOU's lives have been fatefully connected ever since that night, so many years ago,when they happened to see each other at the circus.
