In the years of Jiajing, Yan Song who was a treacherous official was taking high position in court. The Yans have the power which is absolute. Once, an important document was stolen. Lu Yi who was a imperial guard was ordered to investigate the case. He met Yuan Jinxia who was a constable for catching criminals and made a bet with her that if she could solve the case earlier, then she could get her own stuff back. They both found that this case was related to Cao Kun who was an official that appeared to be dead but seemed still alive.

Yuan and Lu met again while searching for Cao Kun. They found that Cao was wearing a mask so he was hard to be recognized. So they both went to Xiaoxiang Pavilion which was a brothel and also where the mask were made to find out the look of it. Lu met Yan Shifan who was the son of Yan Song at the place so he had to have fun with the latter. Therefore Yuan pretended to be a prostitute and stole the drawing of the mask while Lu was attracted by the melody she played by the Konghou which his dead mother used to play.
