Simonetta's first priority is to memorialize Theresa. She calls the city councilman and arranges to have the street where Theresa grew up on named after her. She then raises money to put up a billboard near the site of the accident with a cash reward for anyone who can help find the culprit. Over the course of getting the street sign and billboard put up, Simonetta develops a close relationship with Theresa's mother, Anna, and sister, Maria. Anna begins referring to Simonetta as the "daughter" she "never had." Eventually, almost exactly two years after Theresa was killed, someone answers the billboard and provides police with a suspect. The man is arrested and convicted for the hit-and-run, thereby finally bringing closure to Theresa's family and completing their wish.
