An ambitious newspaperwoman is intrigued by the Navy having a schooner such as the Kiwi and so stows away on their next mission. The Captain is ticked off and so he and Major Butcher strand her with friendly natives while they complete their dangerous mission. All goes well until they find out the island has been occupied by the Japanese in their absence.

Pharmacist's Mate Tyler who has been drafted to act as the Kiwi's cook overhears the crew talking about about what a terrible cook he is and so requests a transfer. When he gets the transfer he is re-assigned to a lab as a janitor and so feels even worse. Meanwhile the crew is having difficulty replacing him and also begin to terribly miss their old shipmate and try to get him back.

1942, just after the fall of Corregidor, a group of American POWs plan a desperate escape. One of their number gets away to alert the U.S. Military of the POWs location. The Kiwi is assigned to get them out. Going on the mission is a nurse volunteer to treat the sick and dying men. She has a chip on her shoulder and a secret reason why she volunteered. Along the way she saves the life of a Japanese Officer which wins her no friends on the Kiwi.

A continuation from part 1. a team from the Kiwi makes contact with the prisoners but are then trapped when their escape route fails. They must try to remain undiscovered by the Japanese. A problem since that Japanese Officer who life was saved in Part 1 and knows the Kiwi crew and nurse by their faces, is now the temporary commander of the POW camp where they are trapped.

Rip Riddle gets a long awaited leave when the ship is docked in Brisbane, Australia. What he doesn't expect is to fall in love with a local, civil defense volunteer Terry Smith.

The crew transports a beautiful charming, French spy to be tried at the next port.

The Japanese have captured three American WACs, one of whom is an Intelligence Officer with vital information on a planned operation. Intelligence has sent an assassin to eliminate her but he too does not know which of the three is the target. Major Butcher counter-proposes a rescue mission to get the women out of Japanese hands before they are handed over to the interrogators.
