Two Latina detectives of the NYPD are reassigned to the Bronx, and they must learn to be fair, caring, and strong to fight crime in a city that never sleeps.
Detectives Ruiz and Lopez are assigned to investigate an overdose of a pregnant teen at a local junior high school. They find traces of the opioid drug fentanyl candy at the crime scene. They soon discover that the teen's overdose may not have been accidental and a school principal becomes their main suspect.
Ruiz and Lopez are promoted and are now in charge of the team, causing Captain Miles to become envious. Detective Macoomb's sister Evelyn joins the unit at the Five-O precinct in the Bronx. Evelyn will prove she is an asset to the unit by using her computer skills to help crack a case. This newly formed unit will prove to their counterparts at the NYPD that they are "The Real Police."
The FDNY's EMS Station 26 houses elite Emergency Medical Technicians. They respond to calls and have received many merits from the City of New York. A lone Lieutenant who works in the Ambulance is one of their best. His interaction with the police is exceptional, but he is now suspected of being an Angel of Death when treating chronically ill patients.
A teenage girl is arrested in Hunts Point for prostitution. It's later discovered that she's a victim of human trafficking. The teen informs Lopez and Ruiz that children are being taken on their way home from nearby schools and forced to work as streetwalkers. Those who defy their human traffickers are killed or sold to other human traffickers in Hunts Point. Pebbles goes undercover as a teenager in a school and discovers that the human traffickers are people parents and students trust the most.
