Tom has a great job as a DJ at the local radio station in Kununurra but he feels trapped in the small country town, so, after some advice from his grandad, he decides it's time to hit the road on an adventure.
In Perth while visiting his dad in prison, Tom is given a lead on where he can find his Aboriginal grandfather, whom he has never met. He finds himself on a yacht, all suited up in an attempt to get that perfect shot.
Tom's search for his indigenous family leads him to Melbourne where he embraces the hipster lifestyle by getting his first ever tattoo before heading to rural Victoria as he closes in on his grandfather.
Tom organises a guide who will take him on a trek to the top of Mount Kosciusko. After hearing that Los Angeles is the city of dreams, Tom catches a flight to see if he has what it takes to photograph a music festival in LA.
Back home in Kununurra and Tom's photos aren't up to the standard that the art gallery was hoping for, so with less than two weeks before the exhibitions open he has to jet off to Adelaide for some last minute snaps.
Tom realises that he will need to learn some survival techniques and enlists the help of a local cowboy in order to learn how to live off the land. He creates his own totem after learning more of his Aboriginal culture.
Tom catches up with his cousin, Jamie, who he works together with to recreate a touching family moment before heading off to backflip off a camel and catch a mud crab.
