Gumby discovers a spaceship in a toy store and decides to visit the moon. Upon reaching the moon, his spaceship is destroyed by a meteorite, leaving him stranded and confronted with strange objects that look like rocks, but which sometimes move and sprout eyes. The rock-like moon creatures pursue Gumby to a crater. Looking through a telescope, Gumby's parents discover that Gumby is in great need of help. Gumby's father sets out to rescue him in a fire engine that has a long extension ladder. Using the fire extinguisher, he sprays the moon creatures and takes Gumby back to earth.

Gumby loses his coin on the way to the shop and must venture through a series mirrors to retrieve it.

Gumby hears a News Bulletin about a lost pony on television and finds a new friend.

Gumby goes to Farmer Glenn's Ranch to help Pokey. Farmer Glenn's crops are not growing properly, so Gumby helps in every way he can.

Gumby attempts to defeat the terrorizing Black Knight in a jousting tournament so the villagers can be free from the Dragon.

Gumby first appeared in the 1953 film short Gumbasia (believed to be one of the first music videos). In 1956, Gumby and his horse friend Pokey appeared on The Howdy Doody Show. It was so popular that it became its own show in 1957, called The Gumby Show. The show contained the 1956 shorts along with new ones. Each episode consisted of 3 cartoons. In the 1960s Goo the blue mermaid, Prickle the yellow dinosaur, and Nopey the dog were introduced. Later came the Blockheads, who sometimes chased after Gumby, Pokey, Prickle, and Goo with some scheme in their block heads. Gumbo and Gumba were Gumby's Father and Mother.

Gumby gets some robots to do his chores, but as expected, things soon go haywire.

It's a full-fledged race and anyone could take the trophy, will it be Gumby and Pokey? The Blockheads? It's anybody's guess.

Gumby and Pokey go swimming where an Indian man finds them and asks them to help him make rain so his Hopi tribe will not starve.

Gumby and Pokey play with various children's toys around them. Along the way they have some mishaps, and put things back the way they were before being demolished by other toys.

Mr. Owl effectively teaches Gumby and Pokey a lesson about the importance of asking permission with a story of three beaver children who build a damn without checking with their parents!
