Charlie buys a goose for dinner, but it becomes the family pet.

Bessie Beary complains she is tired of always having to do the housework. Charlie offers to take care of things while she goes to the beauty parlor. Bessie, with good reason, does not trust Charlie and advises Goose to keep an eye out. Sure enough, Charlie does his chores as sloppily as possible leaving Goose to head over to the beauty parlor to tattle to Bessie who berates Charlie over the phone. Charlie soon discovers what a snitch Goose is and tries to "close that big beak".

A nostalgic Charlie is searching through his college trunk when he comes across an old photo of his football team which catches Junior's interest.

Charlie, all set for a day's golf game, is horrified to discover it is pouring rain outside. Bessie suggests that since he can't play golf.

While Charlie is outside watering the lawn, Bessie tells him she ordered a sprinkler. Not wanting to spend money on installing it, Charlie decides to install a sprinkler himself.

Bessie wants to hire a builder to make a sewing room for the house, but Charlie and Junior decide to build it instead. This, of course, becomes a massive mistake.
