Leif's ship strikes a rock while traveling along an enemy's coastline in the fog. While the Vikings try to repair the hole in their ship's hull, Brother John leaves the company, weary of Finn's disbelief about the usefulness of "the black rock" - a magnet - for navigating in bad weather. Leif chases him and the two men stumble upon an outcropping of the desired rock - along with a rich vein of ore carefully guarded by their enemies.

Norse explorer Leif Ericson and his raiders come to the rescue of a Viking prisoner. When he is set free the man tells them of hidden treasure he has seen in the Saracen country. Guess where Leif and his men choose to go next.

King Knut summons all of the Viking leaders to his capital with fearful news - an unknown enemy has created a tremendous weapon that can destroy all of their long ships without the warriors even seeing their foes. Leif and his men seek the weapon, only to have their ships set on fire far from shore.

Leif and Firebeard try to create a system were men can settle their grievances without resorting to swordplay.
