The adjective that inevitably follows Stanley Kubrick is 'perfectionist'. For those who admire his films, perfectionism is entwined to his art, but for those who worked with him and experienced it, it is something quite different.
Kubrick preferred to collaborate with writers who were not professional screenwriters, with whom, over the course of long chats, he would work out scripts. These were never final and would be reworked with the actors during filming.
