Sten Lundager was one of Denmark's biggest hashish smugglers. He lived the good life and made lots of money, but life as a criminal came at a great cost to himself and others. The smuggler's life begins in the 60s, when he gets tired of life as an apprentice painter in a sleepy Copenhagen suburb. All around him, the youth rebellion is in full swing, and a new lifestyle is spreading with collectives, hippies, free sex, hashish and the cultivation of Eastern mysticism. Like many of his peers, Sten goes to Afghanistan and India, but when he returns home, he ditches the hippie life and makes a decision that will make him a hash king. He teaches Moroccan farmers how to make hashish and smuggles it to Denmark under the noses of the police, who have barely heard of the new drug. He shovels in money and mingles with the Danish jet set and foreign rock stars at the famous "Club 17". But the life of a smuggler has its price. He lies to family and friends and the police are gearing up in the fight against the hashish traffickers.

He seeks shelter with a girlfriend in Florida, and starts a law-abiding life as a boat builder, when an old friend makes him an offer he can't refuse. Sten goes to Colombia and Thailand. Many millions of kroner and tons of hashish are at stake and among the investors are the mafia and shady stockbrokers. But how accommodating are the customs officials in Bangkok? And can Sten continue to live his life so far from the ideals of the hippie era?

After escaping from the United States, he settles on the sunny Spanish coast, where he hides from Interpol and starts a whole new smuggling route. While Denmark is debating for and against the legalization of hashish, Sten is a spider in a smuggling network of Moroccan hashish farmers, hashish couriers from all over Europe and pushers and masterminds in Denmark. But can it keep going well? He lets his family down, people around him are arrested, and he has to constantly look over his shoulder. He decides to make the last big coup that will pave the way for a completely new life, but in the United States he is caught up with the past.
