Return of the Tribe

Episode #1.1

Mon, May 07, 2007
The Insect Tribe of Papua New Guinea swap war paint for warm clothes when they visit Britain to stay with Donal MacIntyre and his family. Last year Donal travelled deep into the jungle to experience life with the crocodile-hunting tribe who were unknown to the outside world until the 1950s. To his surprise, he found the tribe had a deep fascination for all things British. The Queen is their Head of State and they wanted to know all about Her Majesty and how the rest of us live. It became clear they'd love to see for themselves, so Donal decided to repay their hospitality and invite them to stay with him in London. They proved to be no ordinary tourists.

Episode #1.2

Mon, May 14, 2007
The Insect Tribe of Papua New Guinea have travelled 10,000 miles from their village deep in the jungle to visit Britain. They've done the sights of London, now it's time to learn about ordinary life in Britain. Half the tribe go to live on a Welsh hill farm while the other half live beside the seaside in Weston super Mare. It's not long before they're questioning everything about our lives from why we work all day to pay for things like water, food and housing that they get free from the jungle, to shock that elderly Britons live in care homes and not with their families.

The Insect Tribe of Papua New Guinea are near the end of their extraordinary visit to Britain when six inches of snow throws them into confusion. They've never encountered anything like it but they're soon throwing snowballs with the same deadly accuracy they throw spears at crocodiles. A pheasant shoot allows them to try our style of hunting and swap stories with the landed gentry but they've seen enough of Britain and are now longing to go home. They used to think our lives were easy compared to theirs, now they think it's the other way round.
