This special concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony of distinguished movie scores is conducted by John Williams. Excerpts include the 1933 score from "Lt. Kije" by Sergei Prokofiev; Erich Wolfgang Korngold's 1937 score for "The Adventures of Robin Hood"; William Walton's composition for Laurence Olivier's Shakespeare productions; Aaron Copland's 1949 score for "The Red Pony"; Jerry Goldsmith's "The Blue Max"; and Williams' own composition, the theme from "Star Wars."
Ella Fitzgerald joins Andre Previn and the Pittsburgh Orchestra performing songs: "Lady Be Good," "I Won't Dance," "Hard-Hearted Hannah" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me." She talks about her early career with Basie and Ellington.
