Earth's First True Supercontinent: Vaalbara

To identify the Earth's oldest supercontinents geologists look at cratons, the oldest rock formations, dating back three and a half billion years, to see if they are chemically similar. Here we explore the cratons that formed the Vaalbara supercontinent.
