Nathan receives a mulberry log that he agreed to cut as a favor to a friend. It unusual to see mulberry in a saw mill and this is a choice log almost devoid of knot holes and other imperfections. He is struck by the minimal sap ring, yellowish color and the smell of the freshly cut wood.
