The Starks are venturing out into the woods in search of Star Glow. The Garps are planning an attack against Starkstead. Meanwhile, something terrifying has crossed the river and is headed towards Karma and Jonar's farms.
Karma's siblings return with baskets full of Star Glow. But they say they have encountered a behemoth in the woods. What could it be? Karma tries to stop the Garps' attack against her farm, but fails. Askar begins forging a magical arrow to get back at them.
Karma is sent to spy on Garpstead from the Border Mound. But she disobeys Askar and enters their territory, all to take back the stolen Star Glow. But she is spotted at Garpstead. By Jonar and his kint Gala. Should he tell the others in his family?
Jonar gets chased by a Rock Troll in the woods and nearly gets caught but is saved by Karma. Now both have saved the other. But Karma's great grandmother Herva has said that the Rock Trolls are getting closer and closer. Karmas has nightmares about them that feel real. Could she be dreamwise?
Karma and Jonar retrace the Rock Troll's tracks deeper into the woods, despite Jonar being a bit afraid. It turns out Herva was right and Karma's dream true. Three Rock Trolls have now crossed the river to capture children and magical beasts - and burn down the farms. Something must be done to stop them.
When the Starks and Garps refuse to cooperate to stop the Rock Trolls, they children must do it themselves. But it will not be easy. With Jonar's cunning and Karma's courage, they manage to come up with a plan. One thing is for certain, there will be a terrible battle.
The long and dark night when the Rock Trolls attack has begun. At the farms, they prepare the defenses while searching for Karma and Jonar who seem to have disappeared. But in the woods, they children have set traps that will stop the Rock Trolls. Now, it's all or nothing.
The plan takes a turn when the Rock Trolls take an unexpected route. Karma and Jonar are forced to flee to the Silver Falls, to lure them back across the bridge. But is Jonar brave enough to go that far, and do something so terribly dangerous? He will have to prove it, as Karma hovers between life and death.
