In search of love, the ghost of a drowned refugee frantically roams the fringes of Europe, the alleged paradise, while witnessing the brutal everyday reality of immigrants stuck in limbo.

A drama-documentary about the Swedish artist John Bauer (1882-1918) painter and illustrator. His work is concerned with landscape and mythology, but he also composed portraits.. We get to follow Bauer's artistic development from school caricature drawings to the last monumental painting. And the romantic meeting with Ester, his future wife.

ArtWatch explores the contentious world of art restoration and demonstrates how original works are often distorted or altered in the process.

The tower block area "Am Kölnberg" has a bad reputation. People who - for any number of reasons - ended up on the edge of society, live here alongside refugee families and immigrants from all over the world. Unemployment, drug abuse and prostitution are part of everyday life for many of them. The film accompanies 4 people over a period of two years and portrays their life at "Kölnberg" with ups and downs. One thing they all have in common: The dream of leading a fulfilled life, far away from "Kölnberg".
