Fortunate Phaka is an environmental scientist and author. He chose to focus his studies on South African wildlife and its interactions with the country's cultures and languages, which he feels have been marginalized from environmental research. It became his passion to unearth the true origins of some of the solutions to environmental problems, that are presented today. These were behaviors and practices he observed in his elders where he grew up - where people don't have science and engineering degrees. His work has been heavily inspired by his heritage and so we go on a journey to uncover the cultural teachings of the Bakone people on the conservation of nature - specifically the protection of their totem species, the Scaly-Feathered Finch.
