School teacher Patrick Owen has a brief encounter with movie star Alex Young and despite all the glitz that comes with her, there is a definite attraction between them.
Patrick is at first delighted to join Alex at an expensive hotel on a press junket until he meets the other stars' boyfriends and starts to feel like a kept man.
After agreeing to a limit to the cost of their Christmas presents to each other, Alex presents Patrick with a sports car. Patrick give her a key to his apartment.
Patrick convinces Alex to go off to a spa instead of waiting by the phone to hear about her possible Oscar nomination. Then Patrick starts to get curious.
