Operation Sealion: Actually a Bad Idea
Operation Sealion was Nazi Germany's plan to invade England. It relied on air superiority to counter the United Kingdom's superior navy. But the Battle of Britian ended that. Even so, the Luftwaffe was not prepared to deal with the Royal Navy so the necessary resupply missions for any troops that successfully landed were doomed to failure.

Despite their experience in World War One neither Germany nor the United Kingdom anticipated the effectiveness of submarines in interdicting shipping between the US and UK in World War Two. The exception was Karl Dönitz who lobbied for a huge U-boat fleet but, fortunately for the Allies, was over-ruled by Erich Raeder and Adolf Hitler who favored a surface fleet.

How Allied Submarines Crippled Japan in WW2
In 1942 American attacks on Japanese merchant shipping were so ineffective that they practically no impact. The problem was finally resolved in late 1943. And in 1944 submarine and air attacks so devastated Japan's imports that Japan lost the ability to fight a naval war.
