Erwin Linnas is an ordinary family man and truck driver in a small Swedish town. He worries about his aging father and struggles with a marriage that is falling apart. On a hot summer day, Erwin drives his tanker across the Öresund Bridge. In the cargo, he smuggles eight Syrian refugees. Suddenly he sees a police checkpoint in front of him on the road. A fatal mistake puts him in front of life-changing choices.

Syrian refugee Mouna has managed to escape Erwin and Rainer, who continue to search for her. At the same time, Erwin is tormented by what he has done. Police officer Anja Kovacs comes into contact with a driver who gave Mouna a ride. Erwin's relationship with his wife Judit is put on edge when she makes an appointment with a divorce lawyer.

Erwin and Rainer are reached by the news that a woman from the Middle East is injured in the hospital. The desperate Rainer tries to find a way to deal with the new situation. Ahmed, who works at Erwin's father's nursing home, becomes increasingly worried about where his brother has gone. Anja's investigation brings to life memories from her past.

Erwin and Lunt are starting to find it increasingly difficult to keep up the facade. The police pick up an important lead. Anja begins to question whether the child in the hospital is Mounas. Erwin's daughter Sonja and Anja's son Adrian go to a party that has an unfortunate end.

When a woman disappears from a nursing home, it leads to a surprising opening in Anja's investigation. At the same time, she is reminded of the death of her brother and father in Bosnia. The pressured Erwin is close to a breakdown.
