In the Taunus jurisdiction, three apparently not linked people without dangerous enemies are fatally shot at public locations by what the eager newspaper dubs the "Taunus-Sniper", soon a hype with the public, even tempting the ministry to resort to extraordinary safety measures. The sniper must be smart, cool-blooded and well-trained. Oliver von Bodenstein, the new chief detective, finds his team, Pia Kirchhoff and Kai Ostermann, temporarily reinforced with haughty LKA (state prosecution) profiler Andreas Neff. Once they try the working hypothesis the only links between the 'substitutive' victims are their loved-ones, everything leads to the complex system of organ donation. And something is rotten given the poorly observed legal-medical protocol.

Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein investigate in the case of the so-called Taunus sniper, who has already killed three people on his conscience. The murderer has shot his victims in cold blood. Initially, the three were chosen completely accidentally. But little by little it becomes clear that the perpetrator did not target his victims themselves, but their family members - and his campaign of revenge has only just begun.
