In 1814, at just 14 years old, José María confronts his father, who does not agree that his son is going to fight the war.

José María Córdova finally fulfills his dream of meeting and being part of the army of General Simón Bolívar, who offers his sincere and unconditional friendship to the young lieutenant.

In the midst of the harsh climate and the obstacles imposed by nature, José María accompanies Bolívar in the liberation campaign, crossing the dangerous rivers of the plains, the untamed páramo de Pisba and finally, facing two decisive battles that will allow the the long-awaited conquest of the liberation of New Granada, which is under the yoke of the Spanish.

After being appointed Military Governor and General Commander of the province of Antioquia, José María Córdova, must face the invasion of the Spanish who intend to take over the region. His brother Salvador, who proves to be a valuable piece in the battle, joins that campaign.

After the victory achieved in the Chorros Blancos combat, Córdova continues his way to Peru, to help General Bolívar, to the liberation of South America. General Córdova, becomes the "Hero of Ayacucho", when defining the triumph of the battle, with his impetus and courage. Days after returning to Santafé, José María travels accompanied by Manuela Sáenz, Bolívar's eternal lover.

While José María must face a trial for the homicide of Sergeant José del Carmen Valdez, in Santafé, a tense political situation is experienced, which begins to take on a conspiracy tinge towards President Simón Bolívar, led by one of his closest friends and companion in battle.

The secret project to overthrow the absolutist Liberator President, is carried out, but is frustrated when the conspirators take the palace of San Carlos and cannot find the whereabouts of General Bolívar, who manages to evade his enemies and save his life. The investigations of the failed plan expose the leaders of the conspiracy, including General Santander, a former friend and ally of Bolívar, who is sentenced to exile from his native country.

Bolívar, aware of Córdova's opposition to his intention to establish a monarchy, gives the order to monitor him, even using the sword, if necessary. Aware of the order, Córdova arrives in Antioquia, where he is forced to rebel and take up arms, beginning the end of his successful military career and his days. Finally, General Córdova, faces the intrigues, revenges and weapons sent from Santafé, which end up sacrificing the life of our hero.
