Red goes about a normal day in the village of Zoltan. After reminiscing about being a member of the Hero's party led by his sister Routi, he must find life saving herbs to help Tanta (the nephew of his friend Gonz).
Rit visits Red's newly constructed apothecary shop to discover that Red is actually her old crush, Gideon. After reminiscing about how they met, Rit asks Red if she can work with him at the shop and retires from adventuring.
Rit moves in with Red and helps him come up with new ideas to increase sales. The hero's party led by Red's sister Ruti, decides letting Gideon (Red) leave was a mistake and sends Danan the martial artist to find Gideon and bring him back.
The townsfolk visit Red's shop and are surprised to find that Rit has retired and joined him. Red and Rit visit the local sauna. Zeff (the sauna owner) reveals that competition has hurt his profits so Red designs a solution.
Officials from the local adventurer's guild visit Red and Rit's shop in an attempt to entice Rit to return to adventuring. Rit reminisces of the time when Gideon (Red) and the hero's party saved her kingdom.
The town doctor employs Red in solving a growing crisis caused by a drug which is spreading through the town. Red and Rit take the afternoon off for a romantic date. Danan meets a mysterious stranger while searching for Gideon (Red).
Tanta's friend Al is found unconscious. He awakens and claims his parents were attacked by Ademy (the son of the captain of the guards), the situation becomes political. The hero's party discovers a weapon owned by the previous demon lord.
Al is kidnapped in an attempt to create unrest among the townsfolk against the town guard. Red rescues Al and Ademi from Bighawk (the leader of the Thieves Guild) while Rit uncovers a larger plot behind the drug causing chaos in Zoltan.
Ruti and Tisse leave to find the maker of the Demon's Blessing drug which can nullify the side effects of the Hero's Blessing. Red and Rit develop a new product to increase sales. Ruti stumbles upon Red's shop for a joyous reunion.
Ruti asks Gideon (Red) to rejoin the hero's party. When Red refuses, Ruti decides to move to Zoltan instead. The remaining members of the hero's party search for Ruti. Tisse makes a personal vow to save Ruti from her blessing.
Tisse tells Red and Rit that Ruti is taking the Devils Blessing drug to suppress the side effects of her blessing. Red finds Danan and reveals that Ruti is suffering. Ares of the hero's party is mislead by a demon masquerading as Danan.
Shiaisandan shows Ares the original hero's swords and reveals they will force Ruti back on the path of the hero against her will. A battle ensues when Theodora of the hero's party arrives to force Ruti back on her path, or die.
Ruti defeats Shaisandan but is possessed by the will of an original hero's sword. Red battles Ruti to disarm her and free her from the sword's will. Ruti asks Theodora to take over as hero. Ruti settles into her new life in Zoltan.
