Olivia and Luzelle have Raymond Ellis legally dead after no contact or calls for the last seven years. After running into an old friend who updates him, Ray flies back to reconcile with Olivia and the children.
Ray is tracked down by loan sharks who loaned him $200 10 years ago, but demand over $7000 in interest. He pleads with Olivia to lend him the money, but she doesn't believe him. The "loan sharks", however, turn out to be actors hired by Luzelle to scare Ray into leaving town.
Ray tries to make up for his years away by being overly generous with his children. When Jordan wants a drum set Ray decides to purchase one over the objections of ex-wife Olivia.
Ray and Luzelle think they're following Wallace, Olivia and the kids to a cabin in the mountains not realizing they've returned home due to a snow storm and the two end up stuck in the storm.
Angie moves into brother Jordan's bedroom after her grandmother's insomnia drives her away. Jordan reacts by relocating upstairs with father Ray. To get his peace and quiet back Ray tries to remedy the situation.
