A woman is found executed by hanging at the cinema of a small town in the Swedish forests. The only clue is a math problem, and the town's only commissioner has dyscalculia. The only one who can help her is Ronnie "the Professor", but he can only solve math when he is drunk. However he has recently stopped drinking as he is trying to patch up the relationship with his daughter, who he just met for the first time in 18 years. But the commissioner is very persistent and soon they discover that each new math clue leads them to new victims.

Victims of austerity, Nelo and Idalia move to the home of Idalia's mother in Mem Martins. Carla, the couple's eldest daughter, is self-proclaimed independent, but can not live without the help of her parents. Aidinha, the youngest daughter, dreams of becoming a popular singer. The boyfriend of Aidinha, Elias, is a "lover boy" and works as a DJ. The day-to-day life of the family is haunted by the presence of the landlady, Analia, a bitter and suspicious woman, who does everything to get them out of the house.

When a small time car thief pairs up with a debt-ridden con artist, mishap ensues.
