Summary "American Idol' - Top 4 Results Show- May 10, 2012

Ryan reminds us that the contestants really want to make this cut because it means a hometown visit.

Group Sing: The final four sing "California Dreamin'' by the Mamas and the Papas.

Video Package: We get a behind-the-scenes look/advertisement for the Ford commercial. Yes, it's a commercial for a commercial.

Ford Commercial: The contestants sing "Feeling So Good" by Jennifer Lopez and drive around, each breathing on the windows and drawing little pictures in the condensation.

Results:

Phillip Phillips. Jimmy Sez: He was confused by Phillip's lack of guitar playing and addition of a saxophone to the Creedence song but confused in a good way since it indicated Phillip is finding himself. He thinks he delivered on the promise of all season on the Damien Rice. He thought all the elements were magnificent. Ryan says after 70 million votes... Phillip will find out what happens in a little while since they'll be "building the top 3" tonight.

Hollie Cavanagh. Jimmy Sez: On the Journey song he thought her over-the-top style was perfect for the song. He thought the Bonnie Raitt song crashed and burned and that she didn't really understand what the song was about. Again Ryan says the actual results will wait.

Performance: David Cook performs his song "The Last Song I'll Write For You." He looks good, natty in a suit and sounds just fine. The song's kind of a dud though, slow, middle of the road.

Results:

Joshua Ledet. Jimmy Sez: He didn't like the gospel-ization of the Josh Groban song. He likes when he sings gospel just not that song. He loved the James Brown song calling it a piece of magic. He says he's seen Prince and Bruce Springsteen do that kind of thing but never on "Idol." He wonders how they'll find a song as good as that for his album.

Jessica Sanchez. Jimmy Sez:He thought the Etta James song sounded good but was more of an impersonation and he compares her growl to a trick and that everyone knows the rabbit is going to come out of the hat. He says he'll encourage her to keep the rabbit more in the hat on her record. He thinks the "Dreamgirls" song was flawless and says it was shock and awe and that Tommy Mottola emailed him to say he was impressed.

He adds that last year he knew Scotty was going to win the whole thing but this year could go to anyone.

Performance: Jennifer Lopez "sings" her hit "Dance Again." There are pyrotechnics and dancers and guys poundign drums and JLo writhing.

Ryan fills time talking with the judges about the top 4.

Then he begins: Jessica is safe. Joshua is safe. Phillip is safe.

Going Home: Hollie

She sings herself out with "The Climb."
