Summary "American Idol" - "Idol Gives Back/Top Seven Results" - April 21, 2010

The show kicks off with a taped message from the President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle thanking "Idol" and its viewers for raising money for charity.

Ryan introduces the judges and thanks the sponsors. He says hello to Queen Latifah who is anchoring the show taking place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Group Sing: The entire top 12, all in white, reassembles for "Keeping the Dream Alive."

Video Package: Jennifer Garner travels to a poverty-stricken area of the Appalachian mountains in Kentucky for "Save the Children." She visits a family of six who live in an unheated two room trailer.

Joining Ryan onstage is Victoria Beckham and two young kids Brianna and Roy. She talks about the area she visited in Kentucky also and the kids who benefit from "Save the Children." The kids talk about how the program has helped improve their lives.

We get a taped message from Capt. "Sully" Sullenberger.

Jonah Hill and Russell Brand come to do a bit about celebrities being recruited for a phone bank, but none of them came.

Video Package: Ryan goes to Kenya to highlight malaria issues, where we learn the story of one expectant mother who was brought to a hospital too late to be saved.

Results #1: George Lopez comes in to "host" the results. He does some jokes. He has all the contestants stand up and then tells them to sit and relax because it's time to judge the judges. He "roasts" the judges. He tells Randy to stop calling people pitchy and to formulate his own thoughts but says he's safe because he's the only "brother" on the show. He goofs on Kara's expectations but says she's safe because she was good on his show. He goofs on Ellen being so nice and says she's safe. He goofs on Simon calling things rubbish and wearing tight T-shirts. He says America has voted to send him back to England but thanks to the volcanic ash he's safe after all

Ford Commercial: "We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands." The gang is working a street and they get those "Matrix"-y stop time effects.

Real Results #1: He brings Crystal and Casey center stage. Crystal is safe and Casey is in the bottom three. Next up is Aaron and Lee. Lee is safe and Aaron is in the bottom three.

Live, in person Morgan Freeman, who gets a lot of applause, talks about growing up in Mississippi and getting a great education. His wish is for that to happen for other kids. This intros a...

Video Package: With Randy talking about the rough ride that poverty-stricken kids have in Mississippi and how Save the Children is helping. Morgan came down to help out and spread the word about literacy. They visit a family and school who really need help alongside the Surgeon General.

Performance: This week's mentor Alicia Keys performs "Unthinkable" and "Empire State of Mind Pt. 2"

Back to Jonah and Russell and their lack of celebrity friends. Now they've got impersonators answering the phones. They actually do have Slash and Tatiana Del Toro and Octomom. Jim Carrey shows up, sees the motley crew and runs away.

Performance: "Change," Carrie Underwood. She tells Latifah that she will be donating 36 cents from each ticket on the fall leg of her tour to Save the Children. (The song references how 36 cents can change the world)

Video Package: Ellen and David Arquette visit a community center in Monrovia that works with Feeding America. They met a family who have benefited from the food bank.

Video Package: Ryan sits down with Bill and Melinda Gates to talk about their foundation and global health care

Wanda Sykes shows up and does some shtick about being a big fan and the silly sing out/video journey of the eliminated contestants.

Results #2:Siobhan, Mike, and Tim come center stage. Tim is in the bottom three, the other two are safe.

Video Package: David Cook appears live in person to intro his package about his trip to Ethiopia for the U.N. Foundation which tries to help women succeed and avoid a life in the sex trade or domestic servitude.

Video Package Annie Lennox presents the story of a fragile young African girl with full-blown AIDS.

Latifah tells us that scheduled performer Annie is stranded in London because of the volcanic ash but we get an update on the same little girl who Annie visits after her drug therapy. She looks amazing and healthy. We then get Annie singing on video.

Performance: "Stairway to Heaven," Mary J. Blige and her all-star band featuring Orianthi, Steve Vai, Randy Jackson, Travis Barker, and Ron Fair. (Apparently, it was recorded as a bonus track for MJB's latest album "Stronger With Each Tear").

Video Package: Simon travels to Douglas, Arizona for the Children's Health Fund. He tells us about pediatrician Dr. John who is able to help patients in part thanks to previous "Idol Gives Back" fundraising.

Simon tells Ryan live onstage that since the show started they've raised $15 million.

Latifah asks Sir Elton John about his longstanding philanthropic contributions to the issue of HIV/AIDS. (He established a foundation in 1992). He urges people to get tested and to help others.

Ryan tells us that next week's theme will be Shania Twain songs and she will be the mentor.
