Summary
"American Idol" - Top 8 Results Show - April 8, 2009
Ryan banters with the judges. Randy was disappointed with last night's performances. Kara thinks some early frontrunners are having an identity crisis and others are very sure of themselves. We get a joke baby picture of Simon and Paula. Ryan shows us a clip of a number one song the year Simon was born. It's Frankie Avalon singing "Venus." Avalon shows up in real-life to finish the song and reveal that Simon was born in 1959.
In the audience: Mario Lopez; the mayor of Kalamazoo, MI;
Group Lip-Synch: "Can't Get You Out of My Head," Kylie Minogue. Wow, it actually sounds like they're singing tonight. Scott's doing an excellent job of navigating the stage, steps and all.
Clip package: Behind the scenes of a Ford commercial shoot. The theme is magic at an old theatre in downtown L.A.
Ford Commercial: "Circus," Britney Spears. The theme is magic, they make cars disappear.
Results:Adam and Kris are safe and Anoop is in the bottom 3.
Performance: Flo Rida, "Right Round." Dead or Alive hook, live chick singer, bouncing, confetti. Proof that some people, no matter how good they may be in studio should never sing live. Almost as bad as Lady GaGa from the previous week.
Results: Danny, Matt, and Allison are safe and Scott and Lil are in the bottom three.
Performance: Kellie Pickler, "Best Days Of Your Life." Wow, how lucky was Pickler. She's adorable and looks amazing but her singing leaves much to be desired. (But the song "I Wonder" on her first album is really touching).
Going Home: Scott (Ryan tells us that only 30,000 votes separated the two of them out of 34 million votes). He sang MUCH better tonight. Simon said the panel was split down the middle but tells him that alas, it's his time to go.
