Summary Police Superintendent Muselier is investigating a series of disappearances in the Rambouillet forest: men, all young and handsome, have mysteriously vanished in the vicinity of the Mare aux Fées. Only one witness: the poacher Garou, who claims to have seen fairies and accuses them of being behind the abductions. Muselier thinks he's crazy. It takes all the authority of the Chief Inspector to get Muselier to agree to be assisted in his investigation by the Brigade des Maléfices. Paumier shares Garou's point of view. He has even tracked down the fairies.
