This is Japanese melo-dramatist director Yoji Yamada's ode to 1930s film production during the transition from silent film to talkies. With many loose associations we can see the rise of a young star Koharu Tanaka for the big New Year release entitled Floating Weeds.

Sood was forced by his mother to work as a security guard after failing to hold onto previous jobs. But once again, he was forced to quit when he encountered a ghost at his new workplace. His unlucky fate takes a turn when he meets Ah Kit, a former snooker champion whose hands were broken by Tam Chong. After meeting Sood, Ah Kit is now sure that Tam Chong can be defeated. Although Sood initially doubts it, his close friends Sentol and Man Kok, along with his girlfriend Su, never stop supporting him.

Booked Out follows the quirky exploits of the Polaroid loving artist Ailidh as she spies and photographs the occupants of her block of flats. Jacob, the boy next door who comes and goes quicker than Ailidh can take pictures. Jacqueline, the mysterious girl that Jacob is visiting and the slightly crazy Mrs Nicholls who Ailidh helps cope with her husbands continuing existence after his death. As Ailidh gets closer to winning Jacobs affection the world that they all live in will be changed forever.
