Summary After 25-year-old Janet Abaroa is discovered brutally murdered in 2005 in her North Carolina home, her family points the finger at her husband, Raven Abaroa. But a lack of direct evidence means the case goes cold for years. New evidence reignites the case and Janet is exhumed. The case against Raven goes to trial. After a first hung jury, Raven takes an "Alford" plea which is a guilty plea in which a defendant maintains their innocence and does not admit to the criminal act they are accused of, but admits that the prosecution has sufficient evidence to persuade a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty, and thus agrees to be treated as guilty. He was sentenced to "8 to 10 years" and was released from prison in December 2017.
