Summary Three partners in Rupert Courtney Associates join in a macabre venture to collect a large insurance tontine set up by the men years before. They decide to gamble two of the their three lives via suicide, allowing the lucky survivor to realize money the "survivor take all" policy. Courtney, who came up with the scheme, intends to "help" the odds. Robin Scott comes into the thing through the firms secretary, Delisa Monetti, an Italian girl whom Robin had met in Rome on a previous case. His investigation is one step behind the shrewd machinations of the killer and one man dies before Robin forces the situation to the point where Courtney kills himself - becoming the only real suicide. Harry Winslow, whose thwarted suicide attempt gave birth to the idea in the first place, ironically ends up with all the money.
