Summary Heavily insured Mrs. Warren dies in the desert. Robin goes to Phoenix to investigate. The beneficiary is a beautiful hypnotherapist named Marcia DeWitt, who has a male nurse named Ellis Brandon. Robin learns Miss DeWitt is illegitimate. He sends Phyllis to try out her therapy, and thereby learns she has a racket. This leads to suspicion, which is driven home when Brandon tries to kill him in the desert. Robin tries to get evidence through Marcia's ex-husband, Henry Milo, but Milo gets killed en route. So Robin uses Brandon's possessive jealousy and Marcia's own therapy technique to trap them into tape recorder evidence.
