Summary After her father has reported her kidnapped, Louisa Howard is tracked to a hotel in Switzerland: not kidnapped, but with her fiancé, Ronald Millais. Her father disapproves of the engagement, and dislikes Millais - well known for living off wealthy women - but Louisa resents his, and Duval's, interference.
