Although the police considers suicide, his son brings a charge against his mistress, the self confident Vera Brühne because she inherits the victim's house in Spain. The prosecution runs an investigation and finally believes in the guilt of Brühne and her alleged aide Johann Ferbach. After a dubious trial, they are sentenced to life. The movie is based on a true story about an Indonesian labour leader who was kidnapped, tortured, and killed because of her struggle (East Java 1993). The case remains unsolved. Several people are punished for the crimes, but later they are released because they are not the real killers.
