Summary A playwright who has been bummed by Broadway decides to use his script as part of a scam in which he poses as the producer of a new play that he intends to stage on 42nd Street. To do this, he assembles a cast and sells off more than 100% of the phony show. Once the cast is assembled, he begins rehearsals and has the cast learn their dialogue, which is campy and pseudo-dramatic. He then has them perform the play in a theater in front of a live audience. Unfortunately for him and his lady friend, the play turns out to be a roaring success, and the review brings Inspector James Braddock into the case. Acting swiftly, Braddock apprehends the scoundrel and sees to it that the money is returned to his investors.
