Der Tod der 36-jährigen Dorothea Blum wirkt wie ein Selbstmord: Ein Sprung in den Abgrund nach einer letzten SMS-Nachricht an ihre Schwester und mit einem Grund, den viele Hepperlinger als Motiv nachvollziehen können. Aber als die tote Dorothea Blum vor Lisa Taubenbaum liegt, hat die Bestatterin Zweifel. Die sich noch verstärken, weil ein kauziger Unbekannter namens Tassilo Hoferichter unbedingt die Leiche besichtigen will - und kurz darauf ermordet wird. Lisa beginnt zu "ermitteln", mal gemeinsam mit dem Stuttgarter Kommissar Thomas Zellinger, mal entschieden gegen seinen Willen. Immerhin sieht Zellinger ein, dass es sich um zwei Morde handelt, die vermutlich zusammenhängen. Als sich herausstellt, dass Dorotheas Bilderbuchfamilienleben doch nicht ganz so ungetrübt war, wie es erschien, erweitert sich der Fokus der Ermittlungen und der Kreis der Verdächtigen. Ungeachtet ihrer persönlichen Reibereien decken Lisa und Thomas einen mörderischen Plan auf, der jegliches Maß verlor und weiteren Menschen gefährlich werden könnte.
