Marsík had an exaggerated opinion of himself and spun naive fantasies and dreams of a better life in which he could still make a fortune. He put an advertisement in the newspaper that he was looking for a wife. The ad was answered by an elderly maid, an old maid who had saved all her life and had a few thousand in her book. He had been seeing the maid, but in time she grew impatient and wanted to get married.
