San Diego, CA: Badge of Dishonor

Summary San Diego college student Cara Knott, driving home on the night of December 27, 1986, on an isolated stretch of a California interstate highway, is stopped and subsequently murdered by California Highway Patrolman Craig Peyer -- in all appearances an exemplary, by-the-book law enforcement officer with a flawless record. However, in the days following Knott's seemingly random, mysterious murder, a number of other female motorists come forward to report that they have been detained by a CHP officer -- identified as Craig Peyer -- on the same stretch of remote highway and experienced frightening and unsettling moments with the patrolman, who apparently was stopping women along the interstate in an attempt to land dates with them. Unexplained scratches on Peyer's face and a doctored entry in his CHP logbook, coupled with rope and thread evidence found on Knott's body and in Peyer's car, point to a chilling conclusion: The seemingly upstanding CHP officer has a dark and sinister side -- a persona that finally erupts and results in murder when he detains the strong-willed and independent Cara Knott, who allegedly threatened to report his unprofessional and questionable behavior that surfaced during the unwarranted traffic stop.
