Summary As Sven Herzog walks his retired police dag Hektor in farmer family Sost's field, they stumble upon long-buried human remains. Farmer Betram Sost, who matches with the corpse, disappeared a year ago, but wasn't reported by his mother, wife and daughter, who run the farm now and make feeble attempts to cover up. His last night, Bertrtam has a fight with grumpy old farmer neighbor Bartels, who was ruined by his cutting edge process but points at widow Walli Sost, whom he beat for years. Then Elisabeth (12), another daughter, is found, hidden since Bertram's disappearance traumatized her.
