Holling ignores who would do either, except perhaps senior neighbor Jörg Ahlers, his former mentor, whose old-fashioned stud farm can't handle the flashier competition. The team looks into ex-con Ronnie Gerster, the only condemned animal sadist around, but he's home taking aim at the beat cops while the killer strikes again. Katrin Börensen's brat daughter Sara ride horses there, with her buddy Caroline, who is in a wheelchair since a riding accident; both have a crush on gentle Jens, whom Caroline's father regularly threatens. A nocturnal intruder slipping by police guard harpoons-hits Jens comatose. The climax is a misguided arson attempt in the stables.
