The genius Mitarai Kiyoshi is a neuroscientist and famous sleuth. The author, Ishioka Kazuki, is his good friend. One day, Ishioka starts to tell him about a mystery which he had heard on the radio.

A disfigured woman is helped by a talented composer to recover her face with plastic surgery. Then he discovers that she's a beautiful woman and a talented singer.

In the civil war that tears apart Algeria in the 1990s, police chief Brahim Llob hunts down Islamists extremists on a daily basis. Having become the favorite target for them, it is with fear that he goes every morning to his office at the Central Commissariat of Algiers. Annoying for the power in place, preparing to publish a whistle-blower book, Morituri, Llob is obliged to take early retirement.

February 2015 - Locarno. There is a dead man on the riverbank. Earlier, he was pedaling on the embankment, and, when he passed some soccer players running, he lunged at them. He fell and hit his head. The man was Claudio Trentinaglia, the quiet neighbor who tended the garden of Marco, a retired journalist, as a hobby. Six years later, Marco finds out from the press that his neighbor's real name was Günther Tschanun. He was an architect who in 1986 murdered four people in cold blood. It is one of the most tragic and violent crimes in modern Switzerland. Upset by the news that makes it impossible for him to continue living in his small house, the former journalist feels compelled to find out who his neighbor really was and what led him to kill. Through an unusual investigation, Marco awakens the ghosts that lurk in his house or, perhaps, in his mind.

A small time crook finds his life is out of control when he and his associates start dealing a new drug, adding further troubles when he himself starts taking the drug resulting in violent visions and flashbacks but are some premonitions.
