Summary Felicity's father Brian grows suspicious of Webster after a fire at their home and, helped by his other daughter Jane, forces open his son-in-law's briefcase to discover that he is planning to stage another 'accident' to cash in on his wife's life-insurance policy. Brian saves Felicity, but Webster flees after telling her "You would've died happy". Five years later he is back in Scotland working as a health and safety officer and starting another fire to get close to Simone Banerjee, an independently-wealthy nurse. He shaves his head and pretends to have leukaemia, so that she will pity and marry him, but the police have become aware of his past through Jane, and DS Charlie Henry of the Oban police decides to investigate him.
