Summary Barney's Aunt Barbara moves into the top flat, acting as agent to the landlord, her brother Rupert, and she is a real battle-axe. She takes a dislike to Mr. Prank - whom she calls Plank - feeling that he is lazy, but she takes a shine to Nev and feeds him chocolate drops, largely because she thinks he is a dog. She has brought with her an unusual ornament, a garden gnome, which actually turns out to be a spy, keeping tabs on Mr. Prank's work and checking that Nev is a dog. Realizing that they have a common enemy the two natural antagonists join forces to thwart the gnome.
