Summary The group is saved from the monsters by the sudden appearance of Ursula's husband Simeon Swann, a wizard who has spent thirty years in the Neverside. Old Bethesda abducts Ursula, since, with Ursula's ancestor turning the daughters to stone, only a descendant can free them. Journalist Laura Piper reappears, hiding in a cupboard, after which Simeon and Tom save Ursula and destroy Old Bethesda. Simeon casts a spell on Katie and Laura so that they will forget events, unaware that Laura is really Lyzera in human disguise and she has escaped with a phial of wizard DNA.
